It’s been years in the making, literally. But your chance to have a say on the $700 million redevelopment of Wollongong’s WIN Precinct is now open.
The project moved into a formal planning phase at the start of the year when the NSW Government announced $17 million in planning funding, aiding design, procurement, and community consultation. But now Infrastructure NSW is leading the design and delivery of the project in partnership with Venues NSW.
Many of the details were released earlier this year, but the $700 million price tag is new.
The project is projected to generate about $550 million in economic activity for the community and create hundreds of jobs during the construction phase. A timeline has not been made available but a single four-year plan is suggested - with 300 jobs in years one and two; 1100 in year three of construction, and 650 jobs in year four and beyond.
The government wants everyone from residents, business owners, sports fans, students, employees in the area, and visitors to have their say. The survey is open to the public until Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Input is specifically requested across the following categories:
Recreation and sports facilities: Enhancements to existing venues and new play spaces.
Public spaces: Design of community zones and foreshore areas.
Accessibility: Ensuring inclusive design for all visitors and participants.
Transport connections: Improving links between the precinct, city, and coast.
Local business support: Opportunities to integrate and uplift the local economy.
The identification of obstacles or challenges within the precinct also is sought. Suggested issues include traffic and congestion; parking; building height and visual impact, impacts during construction and signage.
Questions within the survey also gauge the importance of sustainability, green space, inclusive design, connectivity and cultural identity.
The redevelopment - in a nutshell
The New WIN Arena
Capacity: A state-of-the-art facility with a 9500-person capacity.
Purpose: Designed to host major concerts, sporting events, and large-scale entertainment.
WIN Stadium Upgrades
Grandstands: Construction of new Northern and Southern Grandstands. The Southern Grandstand will feature four modern changerooms designed to support the growth of both men’s and women’s professional sport.
Eastern Hill: Upgrades to improve accessibility and amenities, with a specific focus on strengthening connections to the foreshore.
Western Grandstand: This existing structure will be retained as a core component of the final precinct design.
Public Spaces and Foreshore
Retail and Dining: New food and beverage offerings and a beachside retail/commercial precinct that includes flexible event spaces for multi-use community functions.
Landscape Improvement: Dedicated coastal restoration efforts, including dune stabilization.
Urban Connectivity: Improved foreshore paths linking the beach directly to the Wollongong CBD.
Southern Training Field
Landscaping: Enhanced landscaping and minor path improvements.
Access: Upgraded beach access points for better community utility.
