Global superstar Sicona Battery Technologies named the Illawarra's business of the year

Sicona Battery Technologies has been named the Illawarra's top business at the glamorous 2025 IMB Bank Illawarra Business Awards.
The homegrown Wollongong innovators, who signed a multi-million dollar international deal in May, may be scaling globally but was recognised recognised locally at the WIN Entertainment Centre on Friday night.
The company, which develops advanced silicon-carbon anodes for lithium-ion batteries, won the Excellence in International Business award on top of the Business of the Year.
"By accelerating next-generation battery materials, Sicona is helping power the energy transition - and they're doing it from right here in the Illawarra," Business Illawarra executive director, Coralie McCarthy, said. "This is innovation that translates into skilled jobs, global customers and helps promote the region as a place to do business, congratulations."
Other members of the burgeoning renewable technologies community featured at the black tie gala. Green Gravity won the Excellence in Tech award as well as the sustainability category while Specialised Energy Solutions' general manager Aaron Mulhall was named outstanding Young Business Leader.
Tiarna Snow, from the Housing Trust and Symbio Wildlife Park's managing director Matt Radnidge collected individual honours while their respective businesses also tasted success.
