Affordable housing has dominated the current election campaign—but for one Illawarra expert, the problem demands long-term, structural reform that outlasts electoral timelines.

Amanda Winks, CEO of the Housing Trust, says Australia's housing situation is now so critical that it requires an overhaul beyond short-term politics.

“Housing takes time - building the number of houses we need will take some time,” Winks said. “For that to happen, we need to get off the three-year political cycle.”
