Port Kembla’s much-anticipated gas terminal is being pushed to the forefront of Australia’s energy future, as new national forecasts signal looming shortfalls in east coast gas supply.
Squadron Energy reaffirmed its call for action following the release of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) latest gas inquiry report. The report confirmed a worsening gas supply outlook for the east coast in 2025 and 2026, with more serious structural shortfalls projected from 2028.
Squadron, which completed construction and landside commissioning of its Port Kembla Energy Terminal earlier this year, said the findings underscored the urgent need to bring its regassification facility online by 2027.
